Mobbed-up union boss sentenced to 57 months of hard time
Last week ATU Local 1181 former president Salvatore “Hotdogs” Battaglia—I couldn’t make up a better name if I tried—was sentenced to 57 months in jail for “racketeering based on the extortion of money from  companies operating school buses under contract with the New York City department of Education.” The North Country Gazette reports that Mr. Hotdogs was [more...]

Tink Fills His Tank With Special Interest Money
Congressional Candidate Elwyn Tinklenberg (MN-6) is making the usual end-of-quarter pitch to raise more money for his campaign. As of this morning he was only a few thousand dollars short of his goal. It’s a safe bet that union special interests have gone a long way toward helping him meet his fundraising goals. How do I contact you?

Please take note, the Center for Union Facts is not a union, we are a union watchdog. We cannot provide you with phone numbers or addresses for unions or their employees.

Union officials have abused the trust of their members. They've misspent member dues and harmed the very same people they promise to protect.

In 2005 alone, federal racketeering investigations resulted in 196 convictions against union officials and employees and $187 million in fines. Union tactics -- including deception and intimidation during organizing campaigns, strikes that hurt members more than they help, spending mandatory union dues on radical political agendas, and the use of anti-democratic voting practices -- are long overdue for exposure.

The Center for Union Facts has gathered a wealth of information about the size, scope, political activities, and criminal activity of the labor movement in the United States of America. Welcome to UnionFacts.com.

FAQs

Are you against unions?
No. We are against union officials' abuse of power, often at the expense of their own rank-and-file members. We are against corruption, violence, and intimidation. We are against the misuse of union dues. We support employees who elect to join a union, as well as the right of employees to remain non-union without intimidation.

So who are you guys, really?
The Center for Union Facts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supported by foundations, businesses, union members, and the general public. We are dedicated to showing Americans the truth about today's union leadership.

Is this part of a political effort?
No. The Center for Union Facts doesn't support candidates for office. We are about education.

Aren't unions dying out? Why is this necessary?
It's true that union membership has declined from 33 percent of all U.S. workers in 1960 to 12.5 percent today. And among non-governmental employees, the rate is less than 8 percent. But while membership rolls may be dwindling, union officials control billions of dollars in dues money -- providing a case study in the maxim that power tends to corrupt.
